It’s summer. Warm days, buzzing flies, and that one universal problem: maggots in the organioc waste bin and a smell that could knock out a troll. Everyone’s suffering…
Well… not me! Not anymore!
And soon, not you either!
This model prevents flies and maggots from infesting your organic waste bin. It works naturally using tea tree oil, which is applied to a cotton pad placed inside the container. The oil evaporates slowly and creates an environment that repels flies without chemicals.
The container does not need to be opened for refilling. Its large honeycomb openings in the lid allow for easy reapplication of oil every few weeks. The cap features a 3D print optimized thread with a secure click lock mechanism that prevents it from loosening unintentionally. A knurled edge on the lid ensures a firm grip, making it easy to open and close—even if things get slimy inside the bin.
The unit can be mounted inside the lid of your bin using screws, adhesive, or blind rivets. Mounting holes are spaced 30 mm apart and have a diameter of 4.2 mm.
Scaling the model is possible within reasonable limits. If you use cotton pads of a non-standard size, feel free to leave a comment or send me a private message. I’ll be happy to upload a version adjusted to your specific dimensions.
Follow me
Interested in a model that skips the soft essential oils and goes straight for hard-core chemistry?
Then follow me for the upcoming "Trash Bin Maggot Shield, Stinging Smell" – powered by pool chlorine tablets.
No more compost smell. Just a faint trace of chlorine gas, the occasional stinging eyes, and beautifully bleached organic waste.
Coming soon. Maybe. Or maybe not…
Installation
The model is shown installed using blind rivets. Screw installation works the same way.
Alternatively, you can use adhesive. Simply apply glue or tape to the back surface (make sure it is clean and dry beforehand) and press the model firmly into place.
