Description

This is a rear cargo rack for bicycles with 27.2mm seat post (specifically, I made it to fit the eesilk 27.2mm).  Since I'm using a suspension seat post, many of the saddle bags on the market don't work because the seat moves relative to the seat post, this is why I designed this clip on rack.

A shorter, lighter version of this rack is here:  https://makerworld.com/en/models/1824384-small-clip-on-cargo-rack-saddle-bag-for-bike#profileId-1947566

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE LICENSING DOES NOT ALLOW FOR MY FILE OR PRINTS OF THE FILE TO BE SOLD!

Since this is a prototype 3D printed part, it is required to use tether straps connected to the seat rail,  so if the part were to fail catastrophically, it will not cause an accident.   I recommend using PETG or other High Temperature filament, I originally printed the part in PLA and it warped after sitting in the car in the California summer heat. My PETG print had a rougher finish.  I sanded lightly with 320 grit sand paper and sprayed with clear coat spray paint to hide the sanding marks.  I printed PETG at 250 deg. C which helped reduce the formation of boogers.

5mm pins are used for the latches, (6x) 40mm length, and (2) 30mm length.  These are readily available on Amazon.

One of the print plates has a sample latch that you can print to verify the latch will work with your seat post before printing the entire part.  There is some adjustment possible by adding or subtracting length of one of the links, see video for details.  I have 4 dots in this link to indicate the length.  First set of dots are at the 20 o'clock position and the second set of dots is at the 5 o'clock position (20.50mm length).

The rack installs in seconds without tools, it has a snap over latch that secures it tightly.

The rack area measures 25cm x 11cm x 11cm, roughly 3 liters of storage, perfect for holding a jacket (specifically, Mountain Hardware ghost whisperer L stored in a 2.5 liter stuff sack)

95mm of seat post length is taken up when the rack is installed.
