Description

Summary

A basic, round body lift block in OpenSCAD. Height, bolt hole diameter and outer diameter are customizable. Photo shows a 3D printed block (in ABS) on the left and a machined and painted UHMW block on the right. I have not tested any 3D printed blocks on a vehicle, see notes in SCAD file.

3D printed block could be used for test fitting on a vehicle before committing to purchasing rod stock for machining. It could also be used as a sample for someone with a lathe to reproduce in plastic (e.g. UHMW, Delrin, Nylon) or Aluminum. Or, you can import the OpenSCAD file into FreeCAD and then export any number of CAD file formats to send to an on-line machine shop such as Xometry, JLC3DP, etc.

If making lift blocks out of a plastic material, you can cut that material, in rod form, with a band saw, table saw or chop saw if you have a suitable way to secure the material for cutting. Do not try to hand hold that material! If you can get a consistent length and a decent square cut, you could just drill the center hole and use the blocks as-is. Or, chuck them up in a lathe to square off to length and center drill. An alternative method is to obtain some flat material of the desired height and then use a hole saw in a drill press to cut out round blocks. This way, no lathe is required.

The BodyLift.txt file includes vehicle specific information such as number and size of body lift blocks, hardware requirements as well as links to assorted items that may be added. You can also make use of the information in this file to answer questions about adapting a body lift kit from one vehicle to another. For example what difference(s) are there between a 1st gen 4Runner or Tacoma body lift kit and a 2nd gen? Check the differences and see if that's something you can work with. For example, bolts might be a different length.  Or, if you want to remove a body lift and restore the vehicle to stock height, the stock body/cab/bed mount bolt dimensions are included.

This file will change over time as new information is added. If you have anything to add, post a MAKE with any additional details.
