Description

Version 3 is out. The changes seems small but greatly improved fitting and durability. To install, slightly bend the parts inward, slide the “hook” side in first then the other. Thank you for all the supports and hope you guys like it!

Protect your XY stepper motors from dust with this simple print. For just 15 minutes and 4g of filament, this snap on protective cap will keep dust and filament away from your stepper motor and, therefore, possibly increasing its lifespan. Doesn't require support/brim.

What's changed in version 3,

  • Biggest Improvement : Added a small slit in the frame of the cover. This change allows the part to bend slightly, taking off pressure from the clips. Allowing for smaller yet more durable clips.
  • The reduced clips' size will be less likely to interfere with the belt as pointed by one of the comments.
  • An indentation has been added to the inner side for easy removal
  • now optimized for printing in 0.2 layer height (print time from 20 mins down to just above 13mins)

P.S. It's been a lot of fun making this and I've learned a lot from your comments and other creator making similar parts. Thank you all.

INSTALLATION OF THESE WILL CAUSE LAYER SHIFT - I have a very similar version of these and although it is an interesting idea, the implementation causes a layer shift whenever there is a filament change. The printer head uses the back left corner as part of its positioning routine so whenever there is a filament change, especially if you use an AMS like me, then the printer recalibrates its head position and shifts things forwards. You can see the results in the images I shared below. The layer shift issue started right after installing the covers, but once I found the issue and removed them, no more layer shift and my prints are perfect again. This is the thread where you can read more about it, with my response at the bottom: https://forum.bambulab.com/t/layer-shifting-after-color-change/3152/51

That's new to me. I am not sure what's going on since you are the first one reporting this issue. I've read your post and the dust cover in your post is not exactly mine so I want to make sure that it's happening with my covers too. I've also printed the model in your post before and noticed that it's a little too thick and can interrupt with the printer when it's homing. I've made my covers as thin as I can to a point that it doesn't interfere with my machine but I am sure every machine will have some minor offset due to manufacturing tolerances so what works for me might not work for you.

Thanks for the reply. Can you confirm that yours are 1.5mm thick and no more? If they are thicker than 1.5mm the P1S head will hit the cover when calibrating.

Unfortunately, my cover is around 1mm thicker than that but still the thinnest one out there. My concern (and probably the concerns of the other creators) is the cover touching the pulley which will cause a bigger problem than layer shift. Having said that, I would still like to confirm that the cover did not pose any problem for my printer even for multi color prints.

Printed with no issues, kind of snapped into place but has a little extra play in it's fitment...I don't think it'll fall out.

good idea and nice design, was a little too loose, so i added a profile with 102% X axis.
