Description

Summary

Customizable dowel/screw/marking jig for woodworking.

One of the great advantages of 3D printing is that you don't need to overcomplicate your design to make it work for every possible situation, unlike many commercial solutions that try to be universal. For instance, this jig doesn't have to work with 24, 18, and 12 mm boards all at once. If you need one for a different board thickness, you can simply adjust the model and print a new jig.

The jig is highly customizable, allowing you to create specialized jigs or molds for unique woodworking projects, saving considerable time otherwise spent measuring and adjusting. Imagine creating a jig specifically for drawers, or another one tailored for shelves.

See the PDF (zipped) for simple instructions on doweling. The method for screw holes follows the same concept. The jig shown in the instructions is included as an STL file (18mm board, 8mm dowel, 20mm distance).

Due to printer and tolerance variations, hole diameters are rarely exact. Print a test version with one hole to check fit, or drill it to size. The default Customizer settings already include slight extra tolerance.

If you prefer imperial units, refer to the provided images for conversions. There is also an STL configured for 3/4" boards, 1/4" dowels, and 1/2" spacing. Hopefully the conversion is accurate—I’m not used to inches.

Happy woodworking:)

PS. This is an old project I originally posted on Thingiverse. Many images are from the Thingiverse Customizer. It may look different than the Bambu Lab Customizer, but the workings and settings are the same due to the same core (OpenSCAD).

PPS. Are there holes you want to cover (intended of course :)), see: https://makerworld.com/en/models/113197-cover-cap-for-drill-holes-fully-customizable
