Description

🔩 K'NEX construction toy 🧱

What is K'NEX?

K'NEX is a construction toy system made up of interlocking plastic rods, connectors, and other components that can be snapped together to build models ranging from simple geometric shapes to complex machines. It's popular among kids, educators, hobbyists, and even engineers because it combines creativity with hands-on learning, particularly in the areas of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math).

New Joint Connector!

Connector Joint - Left = Original; Right = Printed

This piece took some time to dial in but I think I managed to make it work! I recommend to lightly sand the ‘ball’ where it touched the buildplate. This way it will be able to rotate more freely. Don't overdo the sanding, it might make the ‘ball’ too loose.

You can now find the newly added joint in the ‘Connector - Joint F and M' profile!

NOTE!

Please be aware of the following when printing the rods:

  • Rods print better (true to model dimensions) when printed upright along the Z-axis
    • No supports needed when printing in the Z-axis
    • Better quality when “Variable layer height” is set to “Smooth”
    • Rods printed along the Z-axis have a longer printing time!
    • Due to the layer lines being perpendicular to the lenght of the rod it might break easier when forces are applied along the rod*
  • I have included 2 rod plates with an upright and lying down model for you to test print quality and time
  • Longer rods (55.0 mm and higher) have been placed on the plate in a specific way to minimize support use and print time
    • You are free to experiment with printing these rods along the Z-axis
  • An adjusted print profile has been uploaded. This profile has a larger contact area with the bed and a slightly different orientation.

* I have not experienced any z-axis printed rods breaking yet.
