The Saab 37 Viggen is a Swedish multirole fighter jet developed in the 1960s by Saab for the Swedish Air Force. Known for its distinctive delta wing and canard design, the Viggen was highly advanced for its time, featuring one of the first digital computers in a combat aircraft and a powerful Volvo RM8B engine with afterburner. It was capable of short takeoffs and landings from rough airstrips, fitting Sweden’s defense strategy. The Viggen served in roles including fighter, attack, and reconnaissance until it was replaced by the JAS 39 Gripen in the early 2000s.
