Print Profile(1)

Description
This is a custom-designed 3D printable splint for an iguana’s middle phalanx (finger bone), based on actual X-rays taken after a real fracture.
It was developed to support and stabilize the injured bone during healing, using a lightweight and anatomically-informed structure.
🦎 Designed with real-life application in mind:
- The model was created after my own iguana fractured her middle finger phalanx.
- I used her X-ray images to ensure accurate dimensions and alignment.
- Since swelling is common after a fracture, I gently heated the printed splint (with hot water or a heat gun) to slightly deform and adapt it to the inflamed area, while preserving structural firmness.
- To improve comfort and hold it in place, I wrapped it with vet wrap (self-adhesive flexible bandage), and finally secured it with medical adhesive tape.
⚠️ Iguanas are highly active and curious animals. Mine managed to remove the splint several times until I used strong human medical tape to keep it fixed. Be sure to remove the tape slowly and gently, as it bonds firmly to the skin.
✂️ Post-processing required:
For best results, lightly sand the inner and outer surfaces of the splint to eliminate sharp edges or visible layer lines. This helps reduce the risk of skin irritation and improves overall comfort.
🧰 Use cases:
- Reptile rescue and rehabilitation
- Veterinary or vet student applications
- Exotic pet owners
- Educational tool for anatomy and fracture management
🛠️ Print Notes:
- No supports needed
- Easy to scale in slicer if needed (not smaller)
- Suggested materials: PETG or PLA+ for light flexibility
- Can be gently heated for shaping
- Light sanding recommended for comfort
⚠️ Important Note:
This model is not a replacement for veterinary diagnosis or treatment. Always consult with a qualified exotic animal veterinarian to evaluate the injury, control pain or inflammation, and determine if supplements or medications are necessary for proper healing.
This splint was created as a support tool within a complete rehabilitation process guided by veterinary care.
