Description

After the great success of the Gear Shift Fidget Toy  (thank you <3), I’ve created the V2 to address many of the issues that users have experienced.

Update 8/9/25: New Spring Cover Available!

This is a fidget toy that mimics a gearbox with the snap of each gear and the repositioning of the lever.

The design is fully print-in-place, requiring no assembly.

It retains the same shape but includes several upgrades for improved durability, reliability, and faster printing.

What’s New?

  • 🆕 Updated pattern and knob design
  • 🛠️ Redesigned spring to better resist deformation
  • ⚙️ Improved snap system that reduces wear on each gear
  • 💪 Stronger, more stable shaft that stays secure during printing (tested on Voron, KP3S, and BambuLab A1 with various filaments, including multicolor printing)

I’ve included 4 versions:

  • Default, should work on 95% of printers
  • Keychain, it has a hole so you can use it as a keychain
  • Looser, for those who find the gears too tight; you can try printing this version (available in the print profile and CAD file)
  • Tight, some people have found that the third and fourth gears stop engaging after a few minutes. This is due to differences in flow/tolerances of the printer. This version has tighter gears to ensure they hold for longer.

Recommendations:

  • 🧼 Clean the print bed thoroughly to ensure the spring adheres properly
  • ⚠️ Be cautious when removing the print from the bed, as the shaft may stick and deform the spring: avoid pulling; gently flex the build plate instead
  • 🚫 No supports are needed
  • 🔧 Enable Z-hop if you experience issues with the shaft shifting during printing
  • ‼️ If not using a print profile: Ensure the seam of the shaft’s spring isn’t too close, as it may fuse and affect functionality. Try setting the seam to “back” or rotating the object

I hope you love this upgraded design!

I’ll be reading all your feedback and suggestions for any tweaks or improvements. Enjoy!
