Description

This is V2 of my carbon filter for H2D. This one incorporates HEPA filters to increase the longevity of the carbon.

It holds slightly less carbon than V1, but it still holds 10oz of either pellet or 4x8 mesh acid-free activated carbon. That's 5x more than the stock Bambu Lab one, and this one is refillable and reusable, no more waste.

For best results, you need to use weather stripping or the filter just sits in there and air can just bypass the filter. You only need around 30" (~76cm) of the foam tape. This is the weather stripping I used, but anything with about 1" (25.4mm) width and 1/8" (3.175mm) thickness should work. Up to ¼" (6.35mm) thick I think would work, it would just be more snug in there. When putting the foam tape on, make sure to align it to the front side of the filter (away from the groove on the backside), and make sure to trim it so it doesn't interfere with lid opening. The lid should just be a friction fit, it's not meant to snap in as it won't be moving when the filter is in the machine.

The filters used are for i-life Model A4/A4s/A6; that is the exact brand I use but any for those models should work.

The carbon I use is from Activated Carbon Depot, but any thermally activated acid-free carbon should work. Either in pellet form or 4x8 mesh granular carbon. Activated also sells their carbon on Amazon, but only in granular form.

I would recommend printing this in something other than PLA if you ever plan to use the heated chamber as the heater is right under it. I have tested this version in PolyMaker HT-PLA, Bambu Lab ASA-CF, Bambu Lab PETG, and Bambu Lab ABS and all came out just fine. Don't mess with the support settings too much; after messing with supports to get them working well for a while, all those settings were changed for a reason.

Unfortunately because I had to redesign this from the ground up as I messed some stuff up in Fusion on the original design, it won't fit on the funnel from the V1 filter. It won't work without shaving a little plastic off of the funnel base, as the opening is slight narrower on V2.  A razor blade or deburring tool should work fine for this, it could also be sanded. Or if you don't like manual labor, just reprint this funnel.

I've been in the hobby a long time and I've designed simple models, but I am just learning to do more complex designs. I would love a boost if you enjoy my model, it helps me keep motivated to try new designs and keep learning.
