Description

3D print end ramps to make a trap from hardware cloth or chicken wire.

You will need:

Hardware cloth. I recommend ½ mesh, at least 24" wide.

Wire cage clips or zip ties to hold the hardware cloth together.

Zip ties to attach the printed end pieces.

Bungee cord to hold the door shut.

Rot cord to attach the bungee cord in areas where rot cord is required. I highly recommend using a rot cord even where not required. This will allow crawfish to eventually escape if the trap gets lost, preventing a lost trap from becoming an eternal crawdad death trap.

Simply wrap the hardware cloth around the end pieces and attach with zip ties. I pre-bent the hardware cloth using a sheet metal bending brake to get clean bends, but hardware cloth is easy to work with and could easily be bent by hand using a scrap piece of wood as a guide. Attach the end pieces with zip ties and close off the open side with the wire cage clips or zip ties. Cut an opening in the top for the access hatch, then cut a separate piece of hardware cloth slightly larger than the opening to act as the door. Attach the door at one side using either the wire cage clips, zip ties, or rot cord, then secure with a bungee cord. If using cage clip or zip ties to attach the door, using a rot cord to secure the bungee cord at the center is recommended, especially if the rot cord is required in your area. The bait cage can be attached with zip ties. See assembly guide for instructions with photos.
