Find 3D-printed chairs uncomfortable? Try this TPU stool!
This design incorporates numerous octagonal elements, inspired by my inexplicable fondness for octagons.
Printing utilizes a dual-material approach:
- X-shaped frame PETG is preferred for its robust durability and flexibility; PLA is an alternative, easier to print with a wider color selection, a 4-wall perimeter is recommended
- The seat contact area employs supple, resilient TPU for superior comfort and prolonged sitting, truly pampering your posterior
🔧 Assembled dimensions: 245 × 186 × 186mm
🔧 Soft overhang area: 151 × 234mm
This model underwent two months of refinement, not due to intricate structure, but to rigorously test diverse TPU material properties, involving extensive experimentation and calibration.
Bambu Lab offers four TPU types, ranked in hardness from softest to hardest:
- 85A
- 90A
- 95A HF
- TPU for AMS (Shore hardness 68D)
The first two (85A and 90A) are too soft, ideal for footwear, unsuitable for this model.
💡 Suitable material options:
1: TPU 95A HF
📎Superior softness, enhanced comfort, and foldable functionality
📎Drawbacks: Incompatibility with AMS, unsuitable for vertical printing; prone to “wall-infill separation,” affecting aesthetics
📎Recommendation: Prone printing is advised

2: TPU for AMS
📎Increased firmness, slightly less comfort, yet considerably softer than PLA stools
📎Supports vertical printing, enabling complete TPU surface coverage for enhanced aesthetics
📎Allows for 2 walls + 15% infill, simplifying printing like PLA
📎Crucially: Supports AMS, unlocking boundless multicolor printing possibilities!

📦 Design highlights:
✔️No supports
✔️No metal parts
✔️AMS not required
📌 Printing tips
For the X-shaped frame, prone to warping; if using a low-temperature heated bed, print confidently, minimizing failures;
However, with PEI textured plates, thoroughly clean with hot soapy water, or apply adhesive for improved success rates
