Description

Features:

  • Fits label/sticker reels up to 5" (135mm) wide and 6.75" (172mm) diameter.
  • Has a slot to organize and hold the backing material once you peel the sticker.
  • Keeps rolls off the table. Most people set them sideways, which damages the label and spool.
  • Modular so you can expand in either direction.
  • Added hex pieces (optional) to add extra bracing for heavy pieces.
    • Additionally, these optional braces need M3 heat set inserts and M3x20mm screws if you use them.
  • Made rollers smaller, so one size fits all, and you can add them on both ends of the rolls.

This design was inspired by Modular Tape Dispenser, no Screws / no Tools by Kapusa and I want to give them a mention here, as I really liked the modular design. It also resembles the old school tape dispensers from back when I was in school.

Detail:

When I was asked to make this for a friend, I first tried to adapt that design, but I ended up rebuilding this in CAD from scratch. I spend far too many hours tweaking the sizes, but this one is heavy duty and when assembed, weighed about 1.5kg (before adding the sticker labels).

Everything was beefed up, sized up, and additonal braces designed. Additionally, the wall now has double sided solid plates so you can install braces with heat set screws. This is optional, but if you want to increase the strength, you'll need M3 heat set inserts and some 20mm M3 screws.

It's well over 5kg now. Since it would be outside, I highly recommend PETG, ASA, or something durable. I stuck with PETG for my build due to the possibilty of chemicals coming into contact with the material.
