Hey everyone,

Do you know this too? You sit down and bam – the toilet seat wobbles again. Super annoying! The problem usually lies with these standard wing nuts that come with most toilet seats. You just can’t get them tight enough – there’s a lack of clamping pressure, and with a little too much force, you’ll easily crack the plastic things.

So I thought: This can be done better. And I designed my own wing nut, suitable for M6 screws. Together with the matching washers, a really strong connection is created – the seat stays where it should.

The wing nut itself has an Ø8 x 17 mm hole at the top – ideal for Ruthex threaded inserts type RX-M6x12.7 (melt-in threaded insert).

I printed the whole thing as solid material, so that it holds bombproof and the threaded insert does not tear out. I recommend: Print all parts solid for maximum stability. PETG is sufficient here. You can also print it with ABS. You just have to consider your shrinkage.

Another little assembly tip: The washer should go with the peg downwards – towards the flat surface of the wing nut. You have to estimate the distance to the toilet bowl yourself and possibly adjust the thickness of the washer. But with the supplied STEP files (AP214), you can easily change the dimensions to your needs.

Important Note:
Not all toilet seat screws are the same. Some have special or even trapezoidal threads (yes, that surprised me too). With me, the M6 inserts didn’t fit at first. I then used M6 x 60 cylindrical head screws (depending on the toilet bowl) – luckily it worked great anyway.

So check how your fastening looks beforehand. Some models have permanently installed hinges, so you can’t change the screw.

By the way, I use a toilet seat with soft-close – it works wonderfully with this setup.

So if you can get the screw out and replace it with a new one, then nothing stands in the way of using this model. Just check beforehand whether your screws are compatible with M6 nuts or whether you need to retrofit the screws.
