Discover the Cast Net Slip-ons, a unique approach to 3D-printed footwear inspired by the intricate geometry of fishing nets. This design explores the potential of flexible filaments to create a breathable, stylish, and comfortable slip-on. Now updated to Version 2.0 based on community feedback, they offers an even better fit, improved traction and durability.
Inspiration & Design
The journey of the Cast Net Slip-ons began with a simple question: could the complex, quad-based topology of a fishing net be translated into functional, wearable footwear? The core challenge was to develop a printable lattice that was not only visually striking but also inherently flexible and durable when produced with TPU filament.
Through parametric approaches and careful engineering in 3ds Max and TyFlow, the design evolved into a structure that provides controlled stretch and exceptional breathability. The result is a slip-on that balances aesthetics with the unique properties of 3D printing materials.
What's New in Version 2.0
As this project has grown, so has the valuable feedback from the community. Version 2.0 is a direct result of that input and further testing, focused on enhancing the everyday usability of the slip-ons.
- Improved Traction & Grip: The sole has been redesigned with an enhanced tread pattern, offering a more reliable grip for a variety of indoor and light outdoor surfaces.
- Enhanced Fit & Comfort: The overall geometry has been refined to better conform to the natural shape of the foot, resulting in a more secure and comfortable fit during wear.

Key Features:
- Breathable Lattice Structure: The open-net design allows for excellent airflow, keeping the footwear light and airy.
- Flexible & Durable: Engineered specifically for TPU 95A, the slip-ons move with your foot while retaining their structural integrity.
- Two Profile Options: The original Cast Nets and the Cast Net V2s which conform to the foot better.
Minimalist Aesthetic: A clean, modern design that showcases the possibilities of 3D printing.
Printing Profile & Instructions:
Printing flexible footwear requires a bit of tuning, but these settings should provide a great starting point.
- Filament: TPU is required. A shore hardness of 95A is recommended for a good balance of structure and flexibility.
- Layer Height: 0.16mm - 0.2mm
- Infill: 8-12% is sufficient. The model's strength comes from its geometry.
- Print Speed: Slow down your print speeds significantly (e.g., 25-40 mm/s) to improve quality and prevent filament feed issues.
Supports: The model is designed to be printed upright or diagonally. Custom tree supports touching the build plate were added to the arch and toe overhangs with settings slightly modified for easy removal.
Sizing Guide:
The Version 2.0 model is sized for a standard EU 43 / UK 9. To adjust the size for your foot, you can scale the model in your slicer. It's recommended to scale uniformly on the X and Y axes.
