AMS 2 Pro Saver Protector Filament Guide

Bill of Materials
Description
The AMS 2 Pro is definitely better protected against filament abrasion than the first AMS version. That's why I didn't actually want to create protectors for the AMS 2 Pro…
However, my followers on MakerWorld have been asking me about it a lot recently, and they've reported that the abrasion is still there, and especially popular CF filaments act like a file on the feeders. Besides, the abrasion protection feature isn't the only function of this little helper, and you wouldn't want to miss out on the possibilities with the AMS 2 Pro!
This AMS 2 Pro Protector/Saver has the following functions:
- Physically protects the AMS 2 Pro feeder inlets – the easily replaceable piece of PTFE absorbs the abrasive forces and guides the filament into the feeder at an optimal angle without rubbing against the edges of the feeder 👌
- Catches the filament-securing tape at the end of the spool before it reaches the inside of the feeder motor (see in pictures)😊
- This also allows filament dusters or filament guides to be securely attached (see in pictures) 😊
- A very nice, large push button is not only more comfortable, but also much easier to press 👍
- If you have multiple AMS 2 Pro modules, you can print the version with labeling/numbering of the feeder – this way you won’t get confused with the filament assignment in Bambu Studio‼️
- Designed specifically with no overhang to the rear side - very important when using oversized (1.1 kg) filament spools (JAYO, some Extrudr, etc) 👌
Installation/Removal:
Thanks to two flexible clamps, the protector is very simple and easy to install and remove – simply squeeze the clamps together with your fingers, pull the protector onto the feeder, and release – the protector is 100% securely in place.
Removal is just as easy – squeeze the clamps together and pull the protector off – done!
Print / Install Instructions:
⚠️PETG is the king for this design! 😍
The clamps stays strong and flexible! If you use the drying function of AMS 2 Pro, then the PETG is more than good enough!
PLA is not so flexible as PETG and could be too weak for drying function. ASA/ABS also work well, but in my opinion the ASA/ABS clamps are not as flexible as PETG and may not hold as well in the long run.
⚠️I do not recommend using PETG-CF for this design - the clamps are not as flexible and the hold function is much weaker!
ℹ️It is helpful to switch your Bambulab Printer from “Standard” Speed to “Quiet” - better print quality and fit!
ℹ️The AMS 2 Pro feeders are positioned lower and angled differently, and my tests have shown that a 30 mm PTFE inserts would be optimal in this case. The length works perfectly for full as well as almost empty filament spools. I used a replacement PTFE tube that came with my Bambu Lab X1 Carbon. Link to this PTFE in Bambu Lab Online Shop is below.
The small and very quickly printed 30mm PTFE cutter offers a simple, repeatably accurate and safe way to cut the PTFE inserts for the AMS 2 Pro protector/saver. The cut edge remains precisely square.
Simply push the 4mm PTFE tube (I recommend the PTFE from BambuLab Shop!) into the PTFE cutter to the end, take the two fingers in front of the finger stop and cut through the slot with the cutter knife, as shown in video below:
