Description

This is a 3D Printed monitor windvane self steering wheel adapter. I haven't gotten around to using it yet, but it is zip tied to the wheel, and you would wrap your ropes around it and tie the rope off to the holes in the outer wheel which spins on the main assembly just by friction. You can lock the wheel to the main assembly to engage steering by putting a pin in the outer holes, I used the pins that are common with the old autohelm autopilots, but you can find your own pin or adapt the model however you want. It is best used with 1/8 inch dyneema, you may need to adapt the wheel to be bigger if you are using a higher diameter rope. I printed it in PLA to start with, which I find holds up for at least a year. It didn't melt or anything even in direct sunlight in the Bahamas where I printed it, but if you want it to last longer and be stronger, maybe consider PETG with a higher infill. Oh and the lock nut that keeps the wheel from comping off the main assembly, you might want to experiment with scaling it down to like 99% size. I did that and it fit better than my first try.
