SpinMixStir – 3-in-1 Printable Lab Station

Centrifuge • Vortex Mixer • Magnetic Stirrer
Budget-friendly • Maker Supply-powered • USB or Battery Operated • Fully Portable

SpinMixStir is a modular, 3D-printable lab tool that combines three essential functions in one compact unit: a microtube centrifuge, a vortex mixer, and a magnetic stirrer. Built for makers, students, and educators, using low-cost, accessible components—all of which can be found through Bambu Lab’s MakerWorld Maker Supplies.

Powered by a 2510 5V fan with adjustable speed via potentiometer.

🔩 Key Features:

  • ✔️ Fully 3D-printable modular body with swappable heads
  • ✔️ Compatible with 1.5–2 mL PCR and microcentrifuge tubes
  • ✔️ Performs centrifugation, vortex mixing, and magnetic stirring
  • ✔️ Adjustable fan speed with built-in potentiometer
  • ✔️ Dual power source: 4× AA batteries or USB (5V)
  • ✔️ Portable—use it anywhere, thanks to AA battery operation.
  • ✔️ Suction cup feet help prevent sliding during operation
  • ✔️ Uses standard neodymium magnets and stir bars
  • ✔️ All parts available through MakerWorld Maker Supplies

🛒 One-stop sourcing:
No need to shop around—all necessary parts and electronics can be sourced directly from MakerWorld.

💡 Balancing Tips for Centrifuge Mode:

  • Load tubes in pairs with equal volume, opposite each other.
  • Use a dummy tube filled with water to balance single samples.
  • Ensure the rotor is mounted securely and spins freely.
  • Start at moderate fan speed to test balance before increasing.
  • For higher RPM and better results, consider upgrading to a larger fan or motor.

⚠️ Friendly Notes:

  • SpinMixStir is a proof-of-principle build, showing how maker-grade supplies can achieve basic lab functionality. While functional for lightweight tasks, its small fan imposes some limits. Larger fans can improve mixing and centrifugation.
  • Despite its lightweight build, the suction cup feet keep it stable during use.
  • 🔌 IMPORTANT: When using USB power, ensure the AA battery box switch is set to the OFF position.
