Description

Please consider casting your Boost token if this model/design helps you, and don't forget to press the like button. Many thanks!

Makerworld has significantly reduced the download/print points awarded to designers. Instead, they have introduced the "Boost" token, which you can apply to models that may not be the most popular (already gaining points from downloads and prints), but are useful or meaningful to you in general. This supports and encourages us, the "losers" (those not focusing on popular themes like Star Wars, car keychains, countless airless balls, etc.), to create more useful or niche designs.

This is my take on the strategic board game - HIVE. I have also included a small storage box, perfect for bringing it along on a trip. Play the game on the train, on the plane, on a yacht, or on the Boeing Starliner. No matter where you are, it's a fun game to enjoy with your loved ones.

Check out my HIVE inspired boardgame --山海 ShanHai Realm: an ancient Chinese auspicious beast themed boardgame https://makerworld.com/en/models/149554#profileId-180537

Multicolored:

There are two types of tiles: one with the insect symbol protruding (Yang) and the other with the symbol engraved (Yin). The colors on the Yang's tiles are determined by layer height, so don't be confused if you intend to change the color by painting.

Dual color:

If you prefer dual colors and not multicolored tiles, I have included two profiles with Yang's tiles—one set with black tiles and white insects, and another with the colors reversed.

No AMS manual color changing:

I have also included a profile that pauses for manual color/filament changing for those who do not have AMS.

Simply start the printing process, it will halt at the color changing point. Your nozzle will cool down automatically, just reheat it to 250°C in Bambu Studio and click "unload" for filament removal. Load your desired color, extrude a few times to clear the previous color, and then press the 'resume' button in Bambu Studio.

The game:

Hive, designed by John Yianni and published in 2001 by Gen42 Games, is an abstract strategy game with a bug theme. The objective in Hive is to encircle the opponent's queen bee, capturing it, while safeguarding one's own queen from capture. The game combines elements of tile-based games and traditional board games.

A complete Hive set comprises a total of 22 pieces, evenly distributed with 11 pieces allocated to each player. These pieces, symbolizing various creatures and possessing distinct movement capabilities, are color-coded (feel free to change the colors):

1 Queen Bee (Yellow-Gold)
2 Spiders (Brown)
2 Beetles (Purple)
3 Grasshoppers (Green)
3 Soldier Ants (Blue)

Official expansion kit is here https://makerworld.com/en/models/155593  and community expansion kit will be available soon.

1 Mosquito (Gray)

1 Ladybug (Red)

1 Pill bug (Cyan)

I printed this on a Prusa MKS4 (I know that's sacrilegious here ... but that was the only 3D printer my local library had and they provided everything for free! :). See the pics for the wonderful results. This model got me hooked on 3D printing so much that I purchased an A1 Combo shortly afterwards. Thanks for the great game models for a fun game!!!

Replying to @G__W__ :
Not sure what I am doing wrong then, it only gives me the option to download the box.

you have to select the correct profile before clicking the download 3mf. try this link should give you all tiles with dual colors. you might need to recolor them. https://makerworld.com/en/models/151315#profileId-169439

The spiders tile is another good model and again the print profile gives a nice end result. As with the other tile profiles I didn’t use the prime tower to save a bit of filament. Thanks for sharing.

Dear Professor, Thank you very much for featuring my work, even though you didn't recommend others to print this version. I completely understand your point about the storage box being too small to fit the original instruction booklet - but if someone 3D prints their own set, they probably don't have the original booklet anyway ;) I've also published all the official commercial expansions (the link is in the page description too): https://makerworld.com/en/models/155593- hive-the-ladybug-pill-bug-mosquito- expansion#profileld-170308 So maybe this little version deserves a second look for recommendation? :) By the way, I'm genuinely flattered - I've really enjoyed your videos and am a subscriber to your channel! I printed on a sparkly plate for extra effect, a good print but weeding the supports for the letters was so fiddly and time consuming. I’d much prefer if it was flush with the lid to avoid all that extra work,

Overall, great job. Beautiful rendition of the game. Kudos!!! I took a star away for the confusion. Not an easy print since all items are scattered in the chaos, which is time consuming. There's way too much going on with these profiles and arrangement. Wouldn't it be easier to have the corresponding type on 1 profile, with multiple plates. Multi-Color Yang, Multi-Color Ring, etc. Also making the A1 solely for the A1 and not P1 or X1 series. just my 2 cents on how the profiles are setup.

Thank you for the suggestions! The pieces were placed in different profiles for ease of use within the apps, allowing users to select the correct pieces to print and easily change colors for each piece. Regarding the A1 mini profile, it is automatically recognized by MakerWorld as compatible with all other printers (to print at a lower speed). However, other printer profiles will not include the A1 mini due to size and speed limitations. Unfortunately, I cannot do anything about it.

Great print. I don’t love the supports on the lid, but the result looks pretty good. The lid could probably use a notch or something to make it easier to remove, but it fits great.

A nice Hive set. Scaled the pieces up to 38mm to match the full size set: it's clearer and easier to use.
