Star Saber (Transformers Prime)

So, I found myself with entirely too much time on my hands and now I have a live size version of the Star Saber. Modeled and Printed form scratch.  

It took me quite some time modeling it and then splitting it up for printing, doing test prints, and revisions but I'm finally happy with the results. Just be aware, the Star Saber is not designed to be structurally sound to begin with and printing it in silk PLA  does not improve this. It makes for ansame decor and pictures, but be careful about wacking it around unless you print if with a lots of walls and secure the pieces by plastic welding or something similar.

However printing it in Silk PLA at higher quality you won't need to sand and paint it. The parts are oriented to have a nice finish straight of the printer.

Printing:

Theres quite a lot to print here, using a 0.16 Layer Height it takes almost 2 full days of printing but i think the results are worth it.

Some parts require supports most of which are pretty easy to remove.

For the blade parts a brim can help with adhesion. I also used a smooth build plate so these parts would fit together more seamlessly.

Using 2 walls for most and 3 on the blade parts and hilt for some extra stability worked out well.

Assembly:

The parts all fit together well and most are secured with pins/slots. If your printer is well calibrated they should be press fit, but glue is recommended for these parts and needed for some other connections.

I've tested the whole assembly thoroughly, but I also included the complete STLs so you can cut it apart yourself if you want.

Scale:

Printing as is, the complete Saber is 1.2 meters long.

It can be scaled up to 125% making it 1.5 m long at max.

On the reverse, scaling to 90% gives it a length of 1.08 m and makes it A1 mini compatible.

Filament:

I used ESUN Silk Gold, ESUN Silk Silver and ZIRO Silk Silver-Black for the handle.
