With its signature bubble canopy and unmistakable silhouette, the Mustang represents one of the most legendary fighters of World War II.
Interestingly, although this kit didn’t make it online first, it has been one of the most requested aircraft since the very beginning. In fact, it appears the popularity of the poll may have inspired other creators to produce similar designs ahead of time – a great sign of how much this community is buzzing with creativity!
This version stays true to the classic P-51D proportions and features a spinning propeller option for extra interactivity.
Fun facts about the P-51D Mustang:
- The P-51D introduced the bubble canopy for improved visibility.
- It could escort bombers all the way from England to Berlin and back – over 1,600 km round-trip.
- Powered by the Packard-built Rolls-Royce Merlin engine, it could reach speeds over 700 km/h (437 mph).
- Known as a bomber escort and a dogfighter, it helped turn the air war in the Allies' favor.
- Its range and speed made it one of the few planes that could truly dominate both the skies and public imagination.
