Description

Summary

I needed a gift for someone that plays fallen order, and thought that since >$30 seemed a bit much for a single piece, 3d printing would be easier. I originally though I could just go to the ldraw library and use a part form there, but after a while searching, I could not find a bd-1, because the part is too new. I checked everywhere online but could not find a model to match the official one. I looked at several pictures and thought that designing a complicated part the ground up would take longer than I had. So I decided to try the Makerlab AI, and surprisingly, it turned out quite usable. I had to adjust the eyes and the hole in the feet, as well at the stud on the back. Other than that, it differs form the actual bd figure at the fine detail level, where the ai interpreted printing as physical texture, which actually helped with painting.
Overall I am very pleased with how it turned out.
It them morphed into a multi-day project of printing, reprinting, painting, making a box, remaking the box, painting the box, building a cal, making a saber, until finally I had a trio of things to post.
This was a fun project, and I hope you enjoy it!
