Looking to explore the world of 3D printable brainteasers? Here’s a great place to start: the Carpenter’s Cross, a classic Chinese wooden puzzle reimagined for 3D printing!
🪵 Based on a traditional wooden model (pictured on the left), this puzzle is made up of 6 interlocking pieces that form the iconic cross shape once assembled. "I wanted to practice modeling, and I thought—why not start with the simplest puzzle I own? (I have nearly 300 puzzles at home!)"
This version is considered “easy” — ideal for beginners or to introduce puzzle fun to friends and family.
🎨 Print it in standard PLA or go for a more authentic look with PLA wood. Dimensions are tuned so it fits snugly when assembled, especially with PLA wood. Choose the right profile according to the type of PLA.
Feel free to experiment with colors and materials to make it your own!

The model was tested in PLA WOOD and is already quite tight. With standard PLA, it will have a bit more play. If needed, I’ll increase the dimensions so that it fits as tightly in standard PLA as it does in PLA WOOD. Using two separate profiles.
