Reusable spool for Bambu Lab refills

When looking for printable spools for Bambu Lab refill filament, I had two main criteria: a design I liked and the ability to print five spools from 1 kg of filament to minimize the cost per spool.

While many existing designs met the weight requirement (well under 200 grams per spool), they often lacked an appealing design that I personally liked. Therefore, I designed my own spool based on the mechanics of the original Bambu Lab refill spool and based on it through my pixel design.

My spool now meets all my requirements: It weighs around 197 grams in PLA and around 160 grams in ABS/ASA. Practical filament clips are also integrated directly into the design.

Since I was already working on the spool, I also designed a matching desiccant container, which you can also find as a print profile here.

I tested the spool extensively with PLA, ABS, and ASA. Although you can achieve good print results with PLA, I don't recommend printing with PLA. This is due to potential problems with filament drying in the filament dryer or the AMS 2 Pro/HT.

A few facts

Spool

  • Spool is compatible with the AMS (2 Pro, HT & Lite)
  • Integrated filament clip
  • Under 200 grams (Varies depending on the filament: PLA around 195 grams, ABS/ASA around 160 grams).
  • Pixel design, based on the hole design of the original spools.

Desiccant container

  • Can be used with desiccant bags
  • Can be used with silica gel beads (hole size/diameter 1.6 mm/0.063 in)
  • Extra openings to the inner chamber for better moisture absorption
  • Also fits the original spool (with adapter ring, since the original coil has a large flat bevel in the middle, it is not as wide in the middle as it is on the outside.)

I'm especially looking forward to your feedback on what you think and how it works for you, as well as the first pictures of your prints.
