Description

The Benchytanic is a playful yet functional remix of the classic 3DBenchy, styled after the RMS Titanic. This multi-material 3D print preserves the essential benchmarking features of the original Benchy while adding detailed elements such as four yellow-and-black smokestacks, arched windows, deck structures, and a stylized hull with red, black, yellow, and white color bands. Two masts connected by a thin filament string also test fine extrusion capabilities.

Beyond its aesthetic appeal, the Benchytanic serves as a comprehensive calibration tool to evaluate a variety of 3D printing parameters, including:

  • Overhang performance: Arched windows and smokestack bases test the printer’s ability to handle unsupported angles.
  • Bridging capabilities: The thin string between the masts and roof structures challenge bridging accuracy.

  • Stringing and retraction tuning: The rigging line and small details between smokestacks may highlight stringing issues.
  • Cooling and thermal performance: Small details like the tips of the funnels and upper railings test heat dissipation and cooling efficiency.
