Description

Light Katana – Ronin's lightsaber

This model is inspired by the lightsaber used by the Ronin character in Star Wars: Visions. In the animation, the weapon combines the form of a traditional katana with science fiction elements. When unsheathed, it reveals a red lightsaber blade.

As someone who appreciates the design of Japanese swords, I wanted to take this idea further by making it feel more like an actual katana. This version is a reinterpretation of the Ronin's saber, built with traditional katana proportions and structure. I call it the Light Katana.

Design Overview

In the first version, I tried to keep the handle as slim as possible by carving internal channels for the circuit board and wiring. I also split the handle into two shells. However, this caused problems when assembling, because the wires moved around too much.

Later, I changed the structure to match some commercial saber designs. I combined the battery, circuit board, and other components into one unit and inserted it as a single module into the handle. This made the build much more stable and easier to assemble.

The blade follows the same concept as my previous FullBlade models, but with a thicker profile (12.5mm) to hold an LED strip inside. To make the segments more secure, I added hidden locking tabs along the spine. Glue can also be used if extra strength is needed.

The scabbard is designed to look like it was built from several damaged lightsaber hilts. It features a lot of mechanical details and layered textures.

Creator’s Note

This is the first model I have made that includes sound and motion-reactive lighting. It is a big step forward compared to my earlier projects. It is also the first time I’ve worked with custom electronic components inside a functional blade model.

Although this is still considered a prototype, it is one of my most ambitious builds. I welcome any suggestions or feedback to help improve it further.
