FruitFly Trap V2!
Print Profile(1)

Bill of Materials
Description
Hey everyone! :)
This is V2 of my already existing “FruitFly Trap | No Glass Needed!” - model I posted last year.
I improved the model and its print profile after taking all the feedback and my testing results into consideration.
Additionally, I provided some tips for catching and luring flies that worked great for me down below.
Maybe this helps for some of you that either had problems with V1 or just want to try the V2. Either way, have fun!
Even though for most people the trap worked great, some encountered issues with the print.
These are the problems I focused on fixing in V2 of my trap:
- leakage
- splitting layers on top piece
- top fitting too tight on bottom part
Heres what I changed:
- deliberate and intentional over-extrusion → this helps to keep the liquid in the trap (for more info, see down below)
- increased the size of the top piece slightly
- other tweaks regarding the model and the print profile to ensure a successful print
- I altered the print profile, so that the print is slower and more accurate.
This is also important due to the needed over-extrusion so the print is watertight
→ if the print were to be too fast, the model could be messy or fail completely
Additional info regarding the over-extrusion:
Because some people encountered leakage in their traps, I encourage you to over-extrude slightly when printing this model.
But beware that you do not do it too much because this could result in the print failing or the printer sending you an error message when cheking for failure on layer no. 3 during the print.
I recommend going up very small steps to check if the extrusion is just right to ensure that the print is water tight if you encounter leakage.
Alternatively, look for a similar structure on your top surface for the bottom part of the trap when compared to mine (see pictures).
Tips for catching:
I started using pure apple cider vinegar as bait but after experimenting around a bit, I settled on a 30/70 mixture of water and apple cider vinegar with the addition of 2 drops of dish soap to break the surface tension.
This way, the flies were unalived easier and faster, which resulted in more flies caught overall.
Be sure to only fill the trap to a height around 1cm to ensure that the flies are able to enter the trap without problems and not get scared off.
However, feel free to comment if this works for you or if you have other suggestions.
I hope this model is able to help you in some way.
If so, maybe you could help me and my hobby with a small boost. :)
Kind regards.
