Description

Divider for Sterilite 6qt Storage Box (Shoebox)

I got a bunch of the Sterilite 6qt storage boxes and needed dividers. There are different designs of these Sterilite 'shoebox' plastic bins available, so please check that these dividers will fit your model. Mine are the “Sterilite 6-Quart Clear Snap-On Storage Box” (16428012). I got them from Menards for a little more than a dollar each.

I made a ‘Bottom Tray’ and a ‘Top Tray’ which gives me a total of 4 inserts per box. The bottom tray drops right into the bin, the top tray sits on the little ledge that this particular shoebox design features. The bottom and top trays can each be glued together if desired. The bottom tray (50mm) is a little taller than the top tray (45mm) due to the design of the box and the height of the ledge. I used a wall thickness of 0.8mm.

I included 2 prints per tray, the standard (solid) version and a ‘Material Saver’ version which prints with no top and bottom layers. The resulting ‘mesh’ bottom reduces material as well as printing time while still being surprisingly sturdy.

I used a 0.4mm nozzle with standard settings (0.2mm layer height) with the exception of no top and bottom layers for the material server option with a 25% infill.

Bottom Tray: 49g

Bottom Tray (Material Saver): 34g

Top Tray: 53g

Top Tray (Material Saver): 34g

Print times are about an hour and less for the material saver variant.

Settings for the ‘mesh bottom’:

Top shell layers: 0

Bottom shell layers: 0

Sparse infill density: 25%

Sparse infill patters: Grid
