Description

🌤️ DIY Off-Grid Weather Station Project

Hello everyone,

Here’s a part of a DIY project: an off-grid weather station powered by a photovoltaic (PV) panel. It is completely self-sufficient and does not require a Wi-Fi connection to communicate with the indoor unit.

The outdoor unit uses an HC-12 433 MHz transceiver to wirelessly transmit data to the indoor unit. The transmitted data includes:

  • 🌡️Outdoor Temperature
  • 💧Relative Humidity
  • 🌬️Air Pressure

⚡ Power Supply System

The entire system is powered by a Waveshare Solar Power Manager, which:

  • Provides the required 5V for the Arduino Nano
  • Manages the battery charging and protection (BMS)
  • Connects directly to the PV panel

I've attached the source code for the project below.

🔧 Additional Tools & Supplies

  • 🪛 Sheet metal screws (to mount the Solar Power Manager)
  • 🔌 Wires for soldering components
  • 🔋 Thicker gauge wires for the battery pack
  • 🔥 Soldering iron and solder
  • 🔩 Power drill with bits (for cable passthroughs)

🛠️ Notes

  • The solar panel I used is oversized for sunny days, but ensures that the system runs reliably even during several cloudy days.
  • Batteries must not be protected cells, as the BMS is already integrated into the Solar Power Manager.

🤝 Final Thoughts

Have fun building your own station!
Feel free to ask if you have questions or if something isn't working as expected. 😊
