McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II
This one’s been requested a lot by the community and after a long time of putting it off (honestly, I was a bit intimidated by the complex shape), I finally took the plunge and modeled the legendary F-4 Phantom II in kitcard form!
Designing this aircraft for 3D printing was quite a challenge due to its unique airframe, the anhedral horizontal stabilizers, and the dual-engine rear section. But after some trial and error… it came together better than I expected, and I’m really happy with how it prints and assembles.
Fun facts:
- The F-4 Phantom II was first introduced in 1960 and became one of the most versatile aircraft of the Cold War, used by both the U.S. Navy and Air Force.
- It could fly at over Mach 2.2 and carry more than 8,000 kg of weapons, including air-to-air, air-to-ground, and even nuclear payloads.
- It was the last U.S. fighter flown by pilots who earned the title of “ace” during the Vietnam War.
- More than 5,000 units were built, and many are still flying today in airshows or serving in other countries.
Hope you enjoy this Cold War icon as much as I enjoyed finally tackling the design.
