McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II

This one’s been requested a lot by the community and after a long time of putting it off (honestly, I was a bit intimidated by the complex shape), I finally took the plunge and modeled the legendary F-4 Phantom II in kitcard form!

Designing this aircraft for 3D printing was quite a challenge due to its unique airframe, the anhedral horizontal stabilizers, and the dual-engine rear section. But after some trial and error… it came together better than I expected, and I’m really happy with how it prints and assembles.

Fun facts:

  • The F-4 Phantom II was first introduced in 1960 and became one of the most versatile aircraft of the Cold War, used by both the U.S. Navy and Air Force.
  • It could fly at over Mach 2.2 and carry more than 8,000 kg of weapons, including air-to-air, air-to-ground, and even nuclear payloads.
  • It was the last U.S. fighter flown by pilots who earned the title of “ace” during the Vietnam War.
  • More than 5,000 units were built, and many are still flying today in airshows or serving in other countries.

Hope you enjoy this Cold War icon as much as I enjoyed finally tackling the design.

What model? I worked Mostly the F-4D with the Pave Spike system. Then the RF-4C for a bit. I arrived before my system. But I did enjoy the flight line.

Fantastic as always! Added to my wall display :) I don't know why it didn't record the print so I can't give stars. But it's undoubtedly five stars!

This is a fantastic print! I love how you did the geometry of the wings and elevators. My dad lived the F-4 since he watched their power in Vietnam. Thank you very much!!! p.s. I’d like to humbly request a Thunderbird please!

I rotated the wings vertically to print them and added a brim. Came out flawless. The supports under that angled wing badly marred the finish for me.

Awesome, I painted it by hand because I don't have AMS and it's incredible. It's true that the print could be smoothed a bit more for better quality, but… I don't care, look at the photo
