Summary

The shell you've asked or is finally here -- the mighty 155mm Artillery shell used by the US, NATO, and many other countries throughout the world.  This is a high-detail life-size shell that doesn't even require an AMS -- all that nice yellow text is printed separately and easily inserted -- no color changes!

[New v2] Easy Screw-together Assembly

Simply screw the body sections together like you see below (and attach the tippy top with the provided peg).

Insertable Text

  1. Be sure to ensure that all the support material is removed from the holes before inserting the yellow text.
  2. Make sure the curved (top) side of the text is facing out and the flat side is what you insert into the hole for each letter.
  3. Keep track of the order the text was in on the build plate to make it easier to insert the right text in the right order for similar characters like 5 and T.

[Old v1] Peg-based Assembly

Assembly is a snap, literally, just snap the pieces together with the provided pegs in the order you see in the image below.  I'd recommend you print the really quick-to-print profile called “Text Test”  so you can see make sure your printer and filament will work with the insertable text.  That way you can choose to print the whole shell with the text or without.

Make sure to let the parts cool before removing from the build plate

If you stretch the hot build plate to pop the parts off right away, it can subtly warp the part so that it doesn't fit snugly together.  Its best to wait 10 minutes or so for the plate to cool and for the part to pop off on its own or at least loosen.  Ideally, swap between two different build plates so you can let one cool while you print the next part with the other build plate.

Peg tightness (important)

You have two assembly options, you'll see separate plates for each in the the print profiles:

  1. Use the looser pegs provided and apply a little super glue (like Gorilla glue) between the layers and on the pegs.  (this option may end up with a cleaner look overall, so if you have glue this is the best option)
  2. Or use the tighter pegs provided to put it together without glue.

Bambu filaments used

  • Matte Dark Green
  • Matte Yellow
  • Metal Iridium Gold
  • Sunlu Silk Red Copper (Amazon link)
    • Silk+ Rose Gold would look decent too
  • Metal Oxide Green (replace with Silk+ Green or Silk+ Silver if you don't have this)

Boost Me (for free)

If you enjoy my work and would like to help support my ability to share more (and even better) models in the future, please consider boosting or buying me a coffee at the link below.   Your support is what helps me have enough filament and supplies to do all the print testing required for my models to be high quality and easy to assemble.  It takes a mountain of test prints for each model. Thanks :-)

Here's a link to my Buy Me a Coffee page, thanks for the support!
