Description

Looking for a budget-friendly alternative to expensive custom framing? This modular art frame offers a customizable and functional solution for displaying your artwork with style, without the hefty price tag.

Features:

  • Modular Design: The frame consists of standard 2-inch to 8-inch segments, easily interconnected using 8 mm pins for a seamless assembly. Perfect for art pieces of various sizes and easy to adapt as your art collection grows (or shrinks—no judgment here). Detail ripples flow between pieces
  • Large Art Compatibility: For larger works (because your art deserves to be seen in all its glory), the pin holes are sized to accommodate 5/16 wooden dowel pins, ensuring a sturdy and secure structure when the plastic connectors won't do. For extra strength use a single continuous dowel through the top side as the connector holes run through the center pieces
  • Versatile Adhesion: I’ve used a mix of CA glue and wood glue to ensure a secure bond.
  • Easy Hanging: Hang the frame using the filler pieces with negative hooks featured in Plates 6 through 9. Simply arrange to top side of the frame to have one of these filler pieces in the middle.

Print Profile 1

Plate 1: Corner Piece

Plates 2 through 4: Extended Corner Pieces

Plates 5 through 8: Straight Pieces sized 2 in to 8 in segments

Plates 9 through 11: Straight Pieces sized 4 in to 8 in segments with negative nail hooks on the back.

Plates 13: Connector

General Guidelines

  • Corner Length: Each corner measures approximately 4 1/8 inches to allow for a ¼" breathing room in the fit.
  • To calculate required straight piece lengths:
Side length − 8 inches (to account for both corners) = Length of straight pieces needed.
This allows for ¼ inch wiggle room per side.
  • Corner Printing: Corners print with reduced speed on vertical sections to minimize sheen differences between horizontal and vertical surfaces.
  • Extended Corners: If an odd-sized side is needed, extended corners are available, adding 0.5 inches to each end of the side.

Example: 18" x 24" Frame

Without Nail Catch

  • Corners: 4
  • 18" Side: 8" (1x), 2" (1x)
  • 24" Side: 8" (2x)
  • Total Required:
    • Corners: 4
    • 2" Pieces: 2
    • 8" Pieces: 6
    • Connectors: 12 per frame (number per side depends on the frame’s hole pattern)

With Nail Catch

  • Replace one side based on your layout as follows:
    • 18" Side: 2" (1x), 6" (1x with nail catch), 2" (1x)
    • 24" Side: 4" (1x), 8" (1x with nail catch), 4" (1x)

Example: 16" x 20" Frame

  • Corners: 4
  • 16" Side: 8" (1x)
  • 20" Side: 6" (2x)
  • Total Required:
    • Corners: 4
    • 8" Pieces: 2
    • 6" Pieces: 4
    • Connectors: 10 per frame (number per side depends on the frame’s hole pattern)

Extended Corners (see photos)

These three plates have corners measuring 4.5 inches rather than 4 inches for instances when you have an odd-sized side.

Plate 2: 4.5 vertical by 4.5 in horizontal

Plate 3: 4 vertical by 4 in horizontal

Plate 4: 4.5 vertical by 4 in horizontal
