Figure: Sir Daniel Fortesque (from MediEvil)
1. Shape and Design
- Head:
The skull is deliberately oversized, with prominent eye sockets and a toothless grin—true to the design from the MediEvil video game. The top of the skull tilts slightly forward, giving the character a confused yet heroic expression. - Torso:
The armor features two distinctly raised shoulder pads that visually protrude. The chest plate is angular and includes fine details like embedded rivets or engravings. The chest is sculpted to appear muscular, yet exaggerated in the game's cartoonish style. - Arms and Hands:
The arms are quite thin and skeletal, with long forearms and exaggerated fingers that end in finely sculpted, slightly open hands. The fingers are individually modeled and very delicate. - Legs and Feet:
The legs are long and disproportionately thin, with segmented armor pieces over thighs, knees, and shins. The feet are wide and have triangular toe caps—ideal for print stability and for the figure to stand securely.
2. Printing Considerations
- Size:
The figure is tall and slim, which presents a challenge in maintaining stability during FDM printing. - Print Orientation:
The entire model is printed at a roughly 45° angle, head pointing downward.
This orientation:- Minimizes support under the arms
- Improves surface quality on the front of the torso and limbs
- Reduces overall support usage
- Component Considerations:
- Head and Torso: Printed as one upright-angled unit. Because of the curved skull and protruding shoulder parts, supports are necessary in some areas.
- Arms and Legs: Due to their thin and elongated shape, they benefit from the angled print, reducing layer stress and risk of warping.
- Hands: Require carefully tuned print settings (low layer height, slow speed) to preserve finger details and avoid snapping.
- Support Structures:
Required for:- Overhanging shoulder pads
- Skull underside and jaw opening
- Toe tips, depending on orientation
- Recommended Layer Height:
0.1 mm to capture detailed armor and facial features. - Material:
Printed in matte black PLA – the matte finish creates a smooth, shadow-absorbing surface that enhances the sculptural impression. - Post-Processing:
Due to the dark color, post-processing is minimal. Any light stringing between fingers can be removed using a heat gun or a precision blade.
3. Summary
This Sir Daniel figure blends heroic stance with comically eerie proportions – a perfect mix of cartoonish creepiness and stylized armor aesthetics. The print demands technical care for thin parts and overhangs, but results in a striking figure with high recognition value from the beloved MediEvil game.
