Description

I needed a vise that can hang on to small 3d printed parts to do finishing work without damaging them. This is what I came up with.

In my video I cut a slot in the bolt to insert a retaining clip. If you don't want to do this, you can install a spring on the bolt in between the two jaws.

I printed this with 100% infill

Parts List:

M5 50mm bolt

M5 nut

Retaining Clip or Spring

Instead of a spring, I used a nut and a bit of Loctite glue. Very good and nicely designed model. The attachments are top-notch — exactly what I needed. You’ve got a boost from me!

finally got it done lol had to go get a screw. I thought I had one. It was not long enough, then I tried cutting the groove to put the little key in did not have The proper tool so I tried to use my bandsaw, cut it a little too deep so I came up with a different solution but I love the print. I love how solid it is. Thank you for your time and effort in creating this print.

Replying to @SciFientist :
when I attempted to cut a groove around the bolt/screw, I cut it a little too deep for the key clip that I had and it was too loose so I took some wire and a pair of needle nose and twisted it very tightly in two different directions two different pieces of wire the first wire I put into the groove that I had cut and tightened very tightly. The second wire I put right behind that one and sniped them off short so that they would clear the distance. Of course I put a washer on before I did that so it keeps the washer from being able to slide by.

Awesome tool and design! Thanks a lot for making this. I had to re orient the parts in the slicer. not sure if you intended to orient them vertically or not. but it really should be printed laying flat. also 100% infill is not the best option for strength. more walls and about 42% infill is where you want to be for strength. maybe design a little detent for the jaw replacements to snap and hold in place when you change them out. Thanks again!

it come out pretty good i suggest make hollow part of handle as sotrage to store jaw inserts, also will be good if handle itself can be separate as module, and design a base for it, so it have normal vise funtion and hand vise function also also! jaw inserts come loose from time to time...

I printed mine same colors but with ASA. I had to tweak a few of things and got it about 80% of the way there . Still not as nice surface finish everywhere as the PLA version. But still . Really good model. Great job!

The only thing I would suggest as an improvement is more pictures and instructions on assembly in the description.

Also nice for painting models, but then a stand would be nice.

Great Idea! I designed a stand for it and made it available to download. Thanks!

supports were a pain to remove but the results were sweet.
