Description
This is a DIY throttle controller system designed for kayak-mounted trolling motors using a PWM speed controller. Built specifically for the Ascend 133X kayak, the throttle assembly is fully 3D printed in ASA for UV and water resistance, designed to mount cleanly to the gunnel tackle tray using a 1.8" ball-joint arm for easy positioning.
đ§ Throttle Assembly:
- Lever-driven 40-tooth gear meshes with a 13-tooth gear mounted on a 10kΊ potentiometer
- Internal shaft system includes lever, spacer, gear, and end cap
- Housed in a sloped, low-profile case with serviceable brackets and screw-down lid
- Designed for smooth motion and water-resistance with sealed wiring exits
âď¸ PWM Integration:
- Uses a TXKEX 10â55V 60A PWM controller with a digital voltmeter, 3-way toggle (forward/off/reverse), and a 10k potentiometer
- PWM controller is mounted in a separate sealed ammo can for durability and waterproofing
- Wiring was manually spliced and extended from the PWM to relocate the voltmeter, switch, and potentiometer into the throttle box
- Power path:
- Deep cycle 12V battery â 60A inline circuit breaker â MotorGuide waterproof power plug
- Plug feeds the PWM in the ammo box
- PWM output wires bypass the trolling motor head, connecting directly to the motor leads
đ Additional Notes:
- The system is mounted with T-bolts into Yak Power T-tracks and designed to be repositioned or removed as needed
- Allows hands-on throttle control when motoring, or can be swung out of the way for paddling or hunting
- Built under the CopOnPC project label
This is a fully functional prototype and is a great baseline for any modular kayak electric conversion setup.
