Description

BACKGROUND

Compostable bags for compost recycling program, using green bags that would be placed in your green waste recycle bin.

Having a bag just sitting on the kitchen bench did not go well with the boss, also the bags tended to break and split. Standard bins have required the bag to hang over the edge of the bin.

A bin that allows the bag to remain internal and does not disappear inside when you put rubbish in.

COMPOST BIN

The bin to provide the ability to retain the bag always at the top of the bin uses are combination of an internal lip and a RING. The RING has the bag folded over it with the top part of the bag being folded down, then the ring placed into the bin. The action of the bag being folded around the ring and the small clearance between the ring and the bin helps keep the bag in place.

BIN Handle

The bin Handle screws onto the lid, the thread is a M32x2, base for the handle screws into the lid. The Mushroom top screws onto the base. This allows for the handle parts to be printed in different colours if required.

The thread on the handle parts has a small clearance of 0.1mm, please keep in mind that the artifacts from printing may cause the thread to jam or stick when putting the parts together.

So to ensure good fitting, clean the thread prior to screwing the parts together.

MATERIALS

The hardest part to print is the handle threads, the base part has been tested with PLA, PLA Silk, PETG. Supports are required due to the top part of the base and the lip around the bottom thread.

Brands tested are Bambu PLA Basic, ESUN PLA SILK, Generic PETG and Polymaker LIte PETG.

PETG is recommended as exposure to moisture over time may degrade the PLA. Other materials such as ABS or ASA would also be suitable.
