Description

Folding Magnetic Chessboard – Regulation Size & Travel-Ready

I’ve seen several models of folding chessboards, but none of them were large — so this is a fully functional, full-size chessboard with all the pieces included:

♟️ Big size – Each square is sized for comfortable, professional play.

🧲 Magnetic – Each square holds a 10x3 mm cylindrical magnet, and each piece includes a 4x2 mm magnet (optionally two for a stronger grip). (I’m sharing the magnets from Makerlab, but they come in packs of 20 — you might be able to find them cheaper on Amazon or Aliexpress.)

📦 Folding design – The board folds in half with a modular hinged structure.

🧩 Sealable – Two decorated caps close the board, turning it into a box to store the pieces inside.

🎨 Customizable – You can use 3D-effect build plates for visual flair.

🧴 Assembly tips – Chessboard assembly: first, connect the two upper parts together, then do the same with the two lower parts. After that, join the upper and lower sections.  Some superglue is needed on the right and left edges (in the areas circled in red in the photo) between the upper and lower halves. Place the magnets, making sure to match the polarities, and close with the caps. The last build plate includes a test cap to check tolerances before final assembly.

🔩 Note: Printing takes some time, but the final result is absolutely worth it.

WARNING: I’ve realized that, for some reason, when uploading to MakerWorld the manually set supports weren’t being applied, which made assembling the chessboard much more difficult. My apologies for this. I’ve re-uploaded the correct profile and hopefully this issue won’t happen again. If anyone still notices the problem, I’d be grateful if you could let me know so we can avoid wasting material and hours of printing. Thanks, and peace.
