10/22 10rd Straight Magazine
Print Profile(1)

Description
Background
This is my magazine for the 10/22. The notable characteristic is the exterior geometry: it is a straight magazine! Rimmed rounds (e.g., 22LR) usually preclude use of a straight magazine. Fortunately, the oversized 10/22 footprint allows just enough space for 10 rounds of 22LR to stack up in their natural, parabolic orientation while the exterior remains straight.
Required Hardware
- QTYx1 - Ruger BX-[#] feed lips - feed lips from BX-15 or BX-25 will work. BX-1 feed lips are not currently supported.*
- QTYx1 - Ruger BX flat spring and spring barrel - found in BX-15 or BX-25*
- QTYx1 - Ruger feed lips screw - you can reuse the screw from your BX-15 or BX-25. Otherwise, it is a #4-40 ~7/16in long*
- QTYx1 - M3 20mm long screw - roughly equivalent SAE would work as well
- QTYx1 - M3 nut - SAE nut matching (4) would work as well
- QTYx1 - Right body - 3d print “10-22_10rd_Mag__BL.3mf” or “Right_v1.STEP.”
- QTYx1 - Left body - 3d print “10-22_10rd_Mag__BL.3mf” or “Left_v1.STEP.”
- QTYx1 - Follower - 3d print “10-22_10rd_Mag__BL.3mf” or “Follower_v2.STEP.”
* I intend to order some COTS flat springs to see if I can avoid the prerequisite of a BX-15/25 donor. If anyone is interested, I would love to hear how the McMaster PN 9293K254 or suchlike flat spring works for you. Once I settle on a spring, I will update (1), (2), and (3) and upload additional parts for the spring barrel and allowing the use of BX-1 feed lips. I do not expect (6), (7), or (8) to change.
Printing Notes and Material Choice
I do not use supports for any of the parts included in this upload. Brim is likely not necessary. I recently switched to Biqu Glacier plate, and ASA is making me use brim for everything. I suspect that is an issue with me, though. Printing PLA on the Glacier or ASA on the OEM Bambu Engineering plate, I did not need brim.
Print orientation for Right and Left parts is with the longest dimension “vertical”--parallel the Z-axis--and the bottom face flush with the build plate. Print orientation for the Follower part is with the spring barrel pin vertical. You will note a cavity is left unsupported on the follower; this does not affect function. Bridging in this case is effective. If there is confusion, reference the .3mf file.
I chose ASA for this print due to UV-resistance, thermal properties, and cost. PLA will work fine in a controlled environment. For outdoor use, I recommend ASA, ABS/PC, nylon/PA, etc.
Other Notes
Recommend initial function testing--and any at-home testing--be executed using inert ammo or “snap caps.” If you're interested, I have my 3d printed snap cap model here: https://makerworld.com/en/models/1428192-22lr-snap-cap-durable-and-cycles-perfectly#profileId-1484597. They work great in my 10/22 and CZ 457.
Upcoming Additions
I am working on support for a 3rd party spring, BX-1 feed lips, and a 3d printed feed lip design (no Ruger feed lips needed). Stay tuned.
