Traditional Slovenian Wind Rattle - KLOPOTEC

A nearly forgotten craft brought back to life fully 3D printed.

A klopotec is a traditional wooden wind-driven device used in Slovenian vineyards to deter birds from damaging grapes or any kind of seeds. It consists of several components, each crafted from specific types of wood to produce a distinctive sound.

Authentic reproduction of the original vineyard klopotec.

No glue needed – all parts can be 3D printed (included in print profile).

All parts designed to fit A1, P1S, X1C, H2D.

Produces a real clatter sound – not just for display.

  1. Stolček (Block): Holds the axle; typically made from hardwood like chestnut, oak, or ash.
  2. Kvaka (Axle): A rotating shaft with holes to attach hammers; drives the motion of the device.
  3. Kladivčki (Hammers): Hammers that strike the board to create sound.
  4. Zvočna deska (Sound Board): The surface that hammers strike; commonly crafted from chestnut or cherry wood.
  5. Viličice (Little Forks): Hold the hammers in place.
  6. Rep (Tail): A bundle of twigs or leaves (often oak or pine) that helps orient the klopotec to the wind.
  7. Vetrnica (Sail): The wind-catching blades, usually made from poplar or fir; the number of blades varies by region.

Assembly Instructions Note:
Refer to the images below for guidance.
Each screw is marked with the number of identical parts and where they belong.
The pin that connects the sail (vane) to the axle is also clearly indicated.

Two short strings are needed for the sound board. After tying the knots and attaching the sound board to the block, it should hang approximately 25 mm below the mounting pin on the block.
