Macrotrack Oval Speedway is a large, easy-to-print toy racetrack designed for use with miniature, die-cast, or RC vehicles. The full track spans (approx.) 132 cm [4.3 ft] in width and 89cm [2.9 ft] in depth - featuring a 3 m [9.8 ft] long smooth, engineered track surface along with a press fit, numbered connection scheme that allows for easy assembly and disassembly.
Now free for all. If you print it, please upload some make photos to share the love.
PRINTER SIZE REQUIREMENT:
- FDM printer able to accommodate pieces approximately 190 mm X 170 mm X 70 mm in size is required.
FEATURES:
- Efficient, no-support design for ease of printing and reduced filament use. Full prototype was successfully printed without supports using less than 1.5kg of filament for all pieces (based on the recommended print settings below).
- 53 printable pieces (20 track pieces, 20 connector pieces, and 13 fence pole pieces) shaped to allow numerous pieces to fit on a single printer bed.
- Press fit, numbered connection scheme, which provides for quick identification and assembling of pieces by matching inscribed track numbers with inscribed connector numbers (see drawing sheet 3).
- Engineered track surface that smoothly transitions from horizontal to an 18 degree banked curve (see drawing sheet 2).
- Design clearance provided between all adjacent pieces (see drawing sheet 2). No finishing work is required to fit pieces together (assuming no printing deficiencies).
CARS NOT INCLUDED
ASSEMBLY:
(1) Identify matching connector and track pieces based on inscribed text on each piece (see drawing sheet 3).
(2) For each matching pair, place the connector piece into the groove of its corresponding track piece, so that the alignment bosses on the connector insert into the alignment sockets of the track piece and the inscribed texts are on the same side (see drawing sheet 3).
(3) Assemble the matched connector/track pairs on top of each other one after the other in ascending order (i.e., 1, 2, 3, 4, etc.), so that track grooves are placed over connector bosses.
(4) Insert fence poles into the square holes of the banked curve track pieces.
FUTURE CONTENT:
- Add-on designs (e.g., grandstands, skybox, stadium lights, etc.) will be developed in the future, which will be compatible with the Macrotrack Oval Speedway posted here.
- More Macrotracks based on real-life racetracks (at some point).
- Your support and feedback are greatly appreciated.

3D printing settings
NOTE: Below settings are recommended for a 0.4 mm dia. nozzle using PLA @ a 60 mm/s print speed to use the least amount of filament. Other materials, nozzle sizes, or print speeds may require different settings.
If more rigid or solid pieces are preferred, do not use lightning infill type and increase line wall count, which will substantially increase filament use.
Track Pieces:
2 line wall count (minimum)
3 layers for top & bottom surfaces (minimum)
30% infill (minimum)
lightning infill type
Connector & Fence Pole Pieces:
3 line wall count (minimum)
3 layers for top & bottom surfaces (minimum)
30 % infill (minimum) for Connectors & 0% for Fence Poles
lines or grid infill type or equivalent
The prototype was printed with the above print settings using an Ender 3 S1 Plus.
