1/8 Scale M1028 120mm Canister Round

This is a highly detailed 1/8 scale model of the U.S. M1028 Canister antipersonnel round. Possibly the simplest 120mm tank round, it consists of a base cup, 4 discarding sabot petals, and a frangible front cap. Contained within are approximately 1097 3/8in tungsten balls which, when fired, act like an enormous shotgun shell and can take out enemy squads, light vehicles, and walls up to 1200 meters away.

This was designed using measurements taken from a full size dummy round and various pieces from an expended Can round. No supports necessary. I printed my examples at 6% infill, which is more than enough given the model geometry. Top and bottom surfaces should be set to “concentric” infill pattern.

Proper colors are as follows:

 - Stub Base/Aft Cap: Silver-gray

 - Primer: Gold

 - Rear Obturator/Rubber Seal: Black

 - Cartridge Case: White or Light Silver (Cameras see it as white, eyes see it as silver, do whatever you think looks cool)

 - Forward Obturator(around the base of the warhead): Black

 - Projectile Retaining Band (The frontmost of the 3 rings on the projectile base): White

 - Projectile Body: Olive Drab

To print in full-color, this model requires 5 colors. I achieved this using an AMS and the external spool on the H2D. If you elect not to color the primer (which is obviously not visible when the model is standing on its base), it requires only 4 colors. A 0.2mm nozzle is not necessary, but provides a superior surface finish on both the bottom of the stub base and the top of the projectile.
