UPPÅTVIND Carbon Air Filter Conversion
Print Profile(5)

Description
This is an IKEA Uppatvind air purifier conversion to add an activated carbon filter stage while keeping the stock HEPA H12 filter. Also unlike other similar models this has the proper filter arrangement HEPA before the carbon. Placing HEPA first ensures the carbon filter is not overloaded with larger particles and dust and instead can focus on the VOCs. The carbon filter has honeycomb internal structure just like the OEM carbon filters, the pellets are segregated into their own separate chambers. This allows for better filtration by increasing the carbon surface area without restricting the airflow.
I remixed two awesome models to print them in one piece on H2/A2L sized bed, big thanks to the original creators of those two models. The carbon filter size was adjusted to make it a perfect fit. The extension HEPA H12 filter frame was remixed into one large item instead of printing it in two pieces. The carbon filter is designed for carbon pellets to be inserted then a layer of carbon foam to go on top before closing the lid. The lid is easily removable so you can swap the carbon every 90 days, no screws in this design. Carbon foam link, 3mm thick. The carbon foam side faces the inside of the purifier to eliminate carbon dust.
After running this plus my add-on filter for a few days, I notice there is a lot less dust in the air and the plastic smell is reduced considerably.
The HEPA filter frames are stackable and you can print two or three to double or triple up the HEPA filtration and use it as an affordable external laser fume extractor smoke purifier together with my hose adapter model.
