Utility Dry Vault – Tactical Multi-use Waterproof Case

Designed for hikers and outdoor enthusiasts, the Utility Dry Vault is a practical, compact solution for safely storing and organizing essential gear like medications, tools, batteries, and other valuables while on the trail.

A rugged, waterproof utility case designed for outdoor adventurers. 100% 3D printable, including filament hinge pins. Includes a sealing gasket, removable tray, flexible TPU mesh, and customizable labels, and more. Prints in separate parts — no AMS  needed.

  • Perfect dimensions: 228 mm × 157 mm × 80 mm high, ideal for keeping small but crucial items secure.

  • Modular design: The hinges and clasp system use a filament-based pin setup, making assembly easy and sturdy without needing extra components.

  • Smart organization: The internal tray and flexible TPU grid inside the lid keep your items securely in place, even when the case is opened on the go.
  • Waterproof seal: Featuring a rubber gasket, this case ensures a tight seal against water, dust, and dirt, keeping your gear protected in various conditions.

  • Printable customization: The outer protective parts are printed separately, allowing for color customization without the need for a multi-color setup or AMS.

🧵 Printing Recommendations 🧵

If you plan to give the box heavy or intensive use, I recommend the following:

  • Increase the number of perimeters or wall loops to 4 or more.
  • Add 2 extra top and bottom layers on top of standard values.
  • Use PETG, as it handles humidity and high temperatures well.
  • For very hot or extreme environments, ABS or ASA are more resistant options.
  • Protective parts can be printed in TPU for added durability and shock absorption. However, keep in mind that the fit might not be perfect due to the material’s flexibility.

💡 I’ll be releasing versions of the protective parts with different textures soon, for even more customization options.

🧩 Extra Tip

If you take a pre-made label like the “fire” one and split it into parts in the Bambu Studio slicer, you’ll get a blank label that you can customize.
You can then add your own text or include any shape using an STL you’ve prepared, directly from the slicer.

To make your label two colors without using AMS, don't forget to add a pause to manually change the filament at the layer that starts the relief.

🔧 Assembly Recommendations

Start by gluing the top protections to the lid. ⚠️ MAKE SURE TO GLUE THEM ON THE CORRECT SIDE!⚠️ The hinge holes should go at the back; the front is where the label slot is located.

On the base, follow this order:

  1. Place the hinges first.
  2. Then, mount the lock on top of those hinges.
  3. Use small pieces of filament as pins.
  4. Finally, glue the bottom protections to the base.

To join the lid and base:

  • Use the large hinges.
  • Use small pieces of filament as pins.

Gluing the pins is not required, but if the box is going to be used heavily, you can:

  • Apply a drop of glue to one end of the pin once inserted, or
  • Leave a small excess of filament on both sides, heat it, and flatten it to prevent it from coming out.
(This method only applies to the rear hinges that connect the lid to the base.)

The label is designed to snap into place and be easily removable.
👉 If you're planning to use the box permanently, feel free to glue it in place.

This case offers more than just storage; it’s a versatile tool for keeping your gear organized and accessible during any outdoor activity.
