STORY FOR THIS PART

This project was born from necessity and a bit of nostalgia. A close friend’s vintage gas stove had lost one of its control knobs – a sturdy yet irreplaceable part of an older model cooktop. Unlike modern knobs with integrated spring-loaded click actions, this classic unit used a separate internal spring mechanism for resistance and control.

After researching similar designs and confirming the standard shaft dimensions still matched today's norms, I recreated the gas knob to precision. But the real challenge – and fun – was replicating the spring-back action. Instead of relying on modern internal mechanics, I designed a custom spring-loaded base as a separate part that locks into the knob, restoring the familiar tactile response from decades past.

The final part is not just a functional replacement – it’s a fully working tribute to clever old-school engineering, made possible with modern tools. It's easy to print, easy to assemble, and brings new life to gas stoves that still have years left to give.
