Description

5-Gallon Modular Hydroponic Bucket Lid System | Kratky + Wicking + DWC Ready | 3 and 6 Site Versions Included!

About the Design:
This versatile 3D-printable bucket lid is designed for growers seeking flexibility, whether you're starting seedlings, growing leafy greens, or rescuing plants from a hydroponic tower. Compatible with standard US 5-gallon buckets (and also fits 3.5 and 7 gallon variants), this lid features 60mm holes—the perfect size for modular tower-style planting cups or the included printable cups.

Multiple Grow Methods Supported:

  • Kratky Hydroponics: Use standalone without pumps for low-maintenance leafy greens.
  • Wicking Hydroponics: Each cup is designed to accommodate wicking cords to gently pull nutrient solution up to your plant roots.
  • Deep Water Culture (DWC): Easily adaptable for active systems by adding an air pump and sprayer or drip line.

Flexible Use Cases:
✔️ Grow leafy greens, herbs, and smaller plants right in a 5-gallon or 3.5-gallon bucket.
✔️ Use as an intermediate growth station before moving plants into a hydroponic tower.
✔️ Great for reviving struggling plants removed from a tower — supports standard tower cups.
✔️ Easily swap between Kratky, Wicking, or DWC methods depending on plant needs.

What’s Included in the Files:

  • Lid Design (3-site and 6-site versions included!)
  • Printable Cups (Kratky and Wicking, and Tower Compatible Styles)
  • Wicking Cord-friendly Inserts

Recommended Printing Notes:

  • Print in PETG for maximum durability, food safety, UV, and humidity resistance.
  • No supports are required for the main lid and most cups (easy printability).

Perfect For:

  • Home hydroponic growers
  • DIY indoor and outdoor gardens
  • Modular and scalable systems
  • Beginners and pros alike

Assembly:

Print the 3 sections of the lid and use zip ties to connect them into a single lid.  Use a minimum of 2 zip ties for smaller plants or add a 3rd or 4th for extra strength.

Buckets:

This was tested with various buckets, including Home Depot, Lowe's, ePackageSupply, and Leaktite buckets.

It would be preferable to create three holes to attach the lid with screws for increased rigidity

Thank you for the feedback. I designed the slots for zip ties, but I do agree that having shorter slots or wider holes may be preferable as a beneficial mix between screws and zip ties.

If you can add them to the design, that would be excellent

i can make one but I don't have a 2 gallon bucket and if I saw correctly it has a different size top. I would need to know the inside diameter and can modify the lid for it.
