Description
The Monument to Liberty (also known as the Shipka Monument) is a monumental structure situated atop St. Nicholas Peak. It stands as a tribute to those who fell fighting for Bulgaria's freedom, specifically commemorating the battles fought around this strategically important location during the Shipka Pass battle. These battles proved decisive in the Russo-Turkish War and Bulgaria's subsequent liberation in the summer of 1877. The monument forms part of the Shipka National Park-Museum.
