Description

Description

Prepare to amaze with the Magical Shrinking Dice—a clever illusion you can print and perform yourself! Show off an ordinary-looking die, place it in your closed hand, then after revealing a tiny magician’s wand, with a tap and a touch of showmanship, open your hand to reveal the die has mysteriously shrunk to a quarter of its size! This easy-to-make trick is perfect for makers, magicians, and anyone who loves a little sleight of hand. Download now and bring a bit of magic to your next performance!

The Trick:

  • Setup:

Start by placing the miniature shrunken magic wand into your pocket on the same side you will be holding onto the trick die. This is important because during the trick when you pull out your wand you will transfer the trick die from your hand into your pocket before pulling out your magic wand.  next place the shrunken mini die inside of the “cave” of the regular sized trick die. A nifty peg attached to the bottom of the trick die allows you to perform the easy slight of hand required to accomplish this illusion. Insert the peg of the trick die in between your middle and ring fingers to keep ahold of the dice when transferring to your opposite hand.

  •  Arrange the trick die in your palm so the back of the die with the cave hole and mini die  is hidden from your audience. Announce to your spectators that you have an ordinary regular sized playing die. hold the die out to your audience and show off the die. You will be allowed to show the front and sides of the trick die without revealing the secret behind. Practice in front of a mirror to get a feel for it.
  • tell your audience that you are about to make this dice disappear! yes that's right disappear!! explain to them that you will place the die in your closed fist. While explaining this you will show your other hands open palm to reveal nothing is in the opposite hand. when the audience notices there's nothing in your opposite hand you will dump the dice into the other hand. Turning your hand back toward you so the audience cannot see the transfer, the miniature shrunken die will fall out of its hole and end up in your other hand.

    • this is where the peg on the trick die comes into play. Keeping hold of the trick die in your initial hand, close your hand around the dice in both of your hands. You can point your finger at the transfer hand while explaining that you will make the dice disappear using your magician's magic wand. This is where you will reach into your pocket to deposit the trick die and keep the secret hidden.

    • After depositing the trick die into your pocket take out your magic wand and act surprised and disappointed that you forgot your regular magic wand and brought your shrinking wand instead. tell your audience that you will not be able to disappear the die now, and instead you will make the die shrink. hover the wand around your closed hand and say a magicians type of saying, like Abracadabra!

    • Open your hand to reveal that your dice had shrunken down to a fraction of its original size! to your spectators surprise go ahead and pass the shrunken die around for your audience members to inspect and see the mini die.

Like learning any new magic trick, practice in front of a mirror to get an idea of what your audience will see. Feel free to use your own narration and explanations throughout your performance, and as always, practice makes perfect.

Printing and Post Processing:

  • you can choose to print the trick die in multi color to make it look more realistic. if not the pips can be colorized with marker or paint after printing.
  • the mini dice will not look good with multi color printing. Print it out in all white and use a ball point pen, preferably of the gel variety. poke the pen tip into the pip and rotate the pen to color the inside of the pip. Pressing the pen firmly into the mini die and spinning was really effective for my results.
  • the mini wand is an easy 3 color swap if standing upright.
  • I've included the colorized print profile that i used to make my die, feel free to use it and give it a rating if it works for you too

that's called a purge tower, usually you don't need this for single layer swaps. you can turn this off in the slicer settings. you would normally want to use this if you were changing at least 2-3 colors per layer.

you know you can turn that setting off correct? let's learn the software before we criticise things we don't know much about. If you read the description, I already explained to you that i recommend manually painting on the pips with a marker or paint. You're not a very diligent person are you?
