Description

This is the side spool mount for the AMS Flipper.

Since the the AMS Flipper covers the rear spool mount I developed an additional side spool mount, to print filaments from outside the AMS.
To make it a bit more interesting this side spool mount is completely 3d printed and does not require any screws or additional hardware, there are even 3d printed bearings, for low friction.

If you like this design, leave a boost to support any future designs (and hopefully an H2D version).

Features of the design:

  • designed to work with the AMS Flipper
  • fully 3d printed does not need any extra hardware.
  • includes 3d printed bearings for low resistance
  • no supports, easy to print
  • versions with and without integrated PTFE guide and for left and right.
  • only needs 100gr of filament

Print recommendation:

All parts are designed to print without supports and can easily fit on a single 256x256 buildplate.
I printed the brackets in Bambu Lab ABS, and scaled it to 100.5% to accommodate for any shrinkage (3MF of that print included), and the bearings printed successfully in ABS in all my tests.
I also created a profile for PETG, but could not get the bearings to print reliably, so for the PETG version I designed a simple spool drum without bearings.
I would avoid PLA, as it creeps under constant load and the heat of the printer can deform it as well.

Assembly:

Check out the third GIF/image for assembly instructions.

  1. loosen the fours screws at back of the AMS Flipper bracket.
  2. tilt the rear AMS Flipper bracket up. and press the spool mount onto it (make sure that the PTFE tube from the buffer is behind the spool mount and PTFE guide)
  3. tile the rea AMS Flipper bracket down and tighten the four screws.
  4. add the first bearing to the spool mount and then the spool drum with the second bearing (or the simple spool drum for use without bearings)
  5. install the PTFE tube to guide the filament (optional)
