This is a MiG-21 kitcard, featuring the colors and markings of the Hungarian Air Force!

The real twist with this model: the kitcard was photographed directly on a retired MiG-21 at Budaörs Airfield in Hungary. This airfield now serves as a resting place for many legendary aircraft, including several decommissioned MiG-21s.

The Hungarian Air Force operated the MiG-21 from 1961 until 2000, making it one of their longest-serving fighter types.

Fun facts about the MiG-21:

  • It is the most-produced supersonic jet aircraft in aviation history, with over 11,000 units built.

  • Its NATO reporting name is “Fishbed.”

  • Despite its simple design, it could reach speeds of Mach 2.0, making it a true icon of Cold War-era air forces.

  • The MiG-21 was used by over 60 countries, and in some parts of the world, it still flies today.

  • The Hungarian MiG-21 fleet had both Soviet-built and license-built versions, and even adapted some models for reconnaissance roles.

I hope you enjoy assembling it as much as I enjoyed creating it (and photographing it right on top of the real thing!)
