This is a MiG-21 kitcard, featuring the colors and markings of the Hungarian Air Force!
The real twist with this model: the kitcard was photographed directly on a retired MiG-21 at Budaörs Airfield in Hungary. This airfield now serves as a resting place for many legendary aircraft, including several decommissioned MiG-21s.
The Hungarian Air Force operated the MiG-21 from 1961 until 2000, making it one of their longest-serving fighter types.
Fun facts about the MiG-21:
It is the most-produced supersonic jet aircraft in aviation history, with over 11,000 units built.
Its NATO reporting name is “Fishbed.”
Despite its simple design, it could reach speeds of Mach 2.0, making it a true icon of Cold War-era air forces.
The MiG-21 was used by over 60 countries, and in some parts of the world, it still flies today.
The Hungarian MiG-21 fleet had both Soviet-built and license-built versions, and even adapted some models for reconnaissance roles.
I hope you enjoy assembling it as much as I enjoyed creating it (and photographing it right on top of the real thing!)
