This model depicts excerpts from the “Letter to the Regent” inscribed on bamboo slips.
The “Letter to the Regent” was written in the fifth year of Jianxing (227 AD) of the Shu Han Dynasty. Following the passing of Liu Bei, the emperor of Shu, it was composed by Zhuge Liang, the kingdom's military strategist, for the then-reigning Emperor Liu Shan.
It exhorts Liu Shan to “draw near virtuous ministers and keep distant from wicked men,” urging him to cultivate virtuous governance and administer the state effectively. It expresses gratitude for Liu Bei's trust and benevolence, and explains to Liu Shan that the planned Northern Expedition is to fulfill the late emperor's last wishes, and also his own duty.
